Women Political Prisoners Suffering Inhumane Care in Iran

As Women’s Day 2016 approaches, the Iranian government continues to be cited by international bodies over its human rights abuses, particularly regarding its female political prisoners. It is estimated that sixty-three women have been executed since Hassan Rouhani’s presidency began in 2013, although sources have noted that many executions are carried out in secret, so this figure could be much higher.
Maryam Akbari Monfared
One political prisoner, Maryam Akbari Monfared, has recently been transferred to a clinic to address her thyroid and eyes. Her family is attempting to get her treated at a rheumatology clinic as well. According to the Human Rights Activists New Agency, her conditions could allow her to have been released under article 134 of the Iranian penal code, but this application has been denied.

Iranian women lose confidence in Rouhani, reformists as elections near

On the heels of Iran’s parliamentary elections, Iranian women are losing hope in the reformist party and current Iranian president Hassan Rouhani, according to a report by Reuters.
women in iran

Rouhani won the Iranian presidential election in 2013 as a “moderate reformist” who ran on a platform to fix economic and social problems. His supporters had hoped his victory would lead to social change in Iran, but the dial on social freedoms has barely budged in Iran since his election according to rights campaigners, who contest that Rouhani’s presidency has made little progress in regards to political and cultural freedoms.

iran-It would be naive to think Rouhani is a ‘moderate’: Lord Clarke of Hampstead

extreme to think that Hassan Rouhani, the president of the clerical regime in Iran is a moderate, Lord Tony Clarke, member of the UK House of Lords and former Leader of the British Labor Party said in a speech during a meeting of a delegation of British parliamentarians with Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, in Paris on Friday.

Lord Clarke of Hampstead

Lord Clarke told the meeting: “Rouhani and his ministers who wish to shadow their smiles and mount statements and suggestions that somehow they've become moderates. Moderates? Two recent reports from Amnesty International and United Nations' Committee on the Rights of the Child clearly expose the truth of how the mullahs treat their citizens, especially young people.”

Iran regime deploys 60,000 IRGC forces and foreign mercenaries in Syria

The Iranian regime’s massive campaign of dispatching forces to Syria from the beginning of 2016 has now gained new dimensions and the number of Revolutionary Guards and their non-Iranian mercenaries have doubled, reaching 60,000 in total. This troop deployment crusade follows the failure of the Iranian regime’s so-called “Moharram” plan executed in the final 3 months of 2015. According to this blueprint the Iranian regime, in coordination with Russia, sought to defeat the Free Syrian Army, especially in Aleppo, and occupy the city while enjoying air cover under vicious airstrikes.

After Iran regime's retreat, encourage democratic change

Sona Samsami
The U.S. continues to lack a broad, coherent, and effective strategy on Iran; one that affords the nuclear issue the weight it deserves, but does so in conjunction with – not in isolation from - Iran’s other threatening facets as well as the percolating desire of millions of Iranians who earnestly seek regime change.
The nuclear agreement may have dire unintended consequences: an emboldened regime that will channel gains into other threat generators, such as the financing of Islamic extremism. As a result, the perceived mitigation of one threat actually bolsters another.

Just this week, after the deadliest bombing in months in Bahrain, state media said the explosives used in the attack were similar to those smuggled in from Iran and seized days earlier.

Indeed, despite all the fanfare by Tehran’s apologists inside the Beltway, the agreement does not provide much cause for celebration in a region already embroiled in sectarian strife, for the most part encouraged by the mullahs....Samsami is the representative in the United States for the National Council of Resistance of Iran, which seeks to establish a democratic, secular and non-nuclear republic in Iran

Iran-A deal to reinvigorate the ayatollahs?

How does one deal with terrorism, repeated deception and widespread abuse of justice? If you’re the P5+1, the perverse solution appears to be that one ignores the multiplicity of past violations and simply reinstates past failures. Trusting a partner guilty of all of the above, apparently writing off their persistent violations and rewarding them with a windfall of cash, may sound like a mistake! In the case of the Iranian regime one may be logical in concluding that it may be a mistake with truly awful international consequences.
The Iranian regime’s nuclear ambition has been in existence since the late 80’s, sometimes hindered, but steadily moving forward. Methods towards attaining a nuclear weapon may have varied outwardly depending on the regime’s policy but, covertly, their resolution has remained unchanged and they have consistently driven towards creation of the world’s deadliest weapon. While the regime has been caught red-handed numerous times, their covert, underground facilities were largely discovered not by western inspections, or intelligence, but by the Iranian opposition group National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) with its biggest constituent the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI).

With or without deal, US must uphold commitments to Iranian dissidents

The U.S. and other key world powers concluded a controversial nuclear agreement with Iran in mid-July, which left the regime’s nuclear infrastructure in place but conceded to lifting crippling sanctions.
The administration has been widely criticized for failing to negotiate the release of American hostages held by the regime, including an American pastor, a former Marine and a journalist. The administration has claimed that this demand was a separate issue from the nuclear deal. Still, when it came to Iranian demands, it agreed to lift conventional weapons embargo and sanctions on Tehran’s missile program, which was also a non-nuclear issue.
